The city of Santa Rosa will finally begin construction on a new senior center,
eight years after fundraising began. The Santa Rosa City Council awarded a
two-and-a-half million dollar contract to A. E. Nelson of Rohnert Park to begin
work on the 24-thousand-square-foot center. The city has decided to proceed with
construction of just the "shell" of the building to begin with in order to take
advantage of a favorable bidding climate. The move is expected save the city
35-percent on the original eight-million-dollar construction estimate.
