A man who aimed a rifle at a Mendocino County Sheriff's officer has been shot
and killed. Authorities say the shooting occurred just before 7 yesterday
morning in a large illegal marijuana garden on Forest Service land in
northeastern Mendocino County. The suspect, who appeared to be in his
20s, carried no identification. The officer has been placed on administrative
leave, which is protocol following a shooting. Three Mendocino County officers,
five Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management officers, and a dog were
investigating the garden.
